A CANVAS
OF CULTURE.

CLIENT: CITY OF BOSTON

MAYORS OFFICE OF ARTS AND CULTURE

MULTI YEAR, MULTI MEDIA.

When the call came in for Canvas of Culture, we knew it was going to be something special.

A multi-year, citywide initiative led by the City of Boston’s Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture in partnership with Street Theory, the project set out to reimagine Boston Public Schools through large-scale public art inviting artists from across the country to leave their mark on the city.

Our role was simple in concept, but massive in scope: capture it all, and more importantly, tell the story in a way that could live beyond the walls.

At the heart of the project was a documentary series we developed and produced, one film for every mural. These mini-docs became the backbone of the entire initiative, giving each artist a voice and each piece a deeper narrative. From concept to final cut, we built a cohesive storytelling approach that elevated the work beyond documentation into something lasting and human.

To reflect the communities these murals lived in, a number of these films were produced in multiple languages making the series a truly bilingual production and ensuring the stories were accessible, authentic, and rooted in the neighborhoods they represented.

With Sussan serving as the sole Producer on the project, overseeing coordination with the City, artist management, logistics, scheduling, communications, and the entire post-production pipeline, along with crafting the Spanish story cuts, the production maintained a consistent structure across a multi-year rollout.

On the ground, Lee led all visual capture and post production as the sole Director of Photography, Photographer, Filmmaker, and Editor—handling 100% of the stills and video production from initial capture through final delivery.

Every wall. Every artist. Every moment.

Alongside the documentary series, we captured process stills & final hero imagery of every mural and delivered a steady stream of real-time social content allowing the city to share the story as it unfolded.

By the end, we had:

  • Created and produced a full documentary series, one film per mural, serving as the core storytelling engine of the project

  • Delivered bilingual films to reflect and engage the communities represented

  • Shot and delivered complete start-to-finish coverage of every installation

  • Produced final hero imagery for long-term city and press use

  • Delivered ongoing social content throughout the life of the project

  • Managed full post-production from dailies to final delivery across a high-volume, multi-year pipeline

Projects like this demand more than just coverage. They require structure, adaptability, and a clear creative vision across a moving, multi-year timeline.

That’s where we thrive.

Canvas of Culture wasn’t just about documenting murals, it was about building a storytelling system at scale. One that could capture the energy of the city, amplify artist voices, and create something that lasts well beyond the paint.
